Betsy Black
Development Consultant
Betsy Black has more than 20 years of experience working as a consultant, trainer and facilitator with individuals, nonprofit organizations and businesses. Committed to helping CDFIs and individuals to advance their organizational and personal missions, she has worked independently and in partnership with Opportunity Finance Network and Oweesta Corporation, consulting and training primarily in the areas of development, capitalization, and strategic planning. She assists with assessments of CDFI organizational financial strength and performance as an analyst with CARS, Opportunity Finance Network’s Assessment and Ratings System for CDFIs. Through an ongoing consultancy as a loan and outreach officer with the Cooperative Fund of New England, she promotes the fund’s work with cooperatives in Vermont. In addition, she maintains a private coaching practice, helping individuals, especially lawyers, find greater satisfaction and success in life and work.
Before starting her own business in 2002, Betsy served for 10 years as capitalization and communications director at the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund, recipient of Opportunity Finance Network’s first Excellence in Financial Performance Award in 2000.
Betsy is active in her community and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Concord Food Cooperative and as president of Concord Toastmasters. She is a frequent volunteer speaker and teacher on topics related to stress management.
Betsy graduated from Middlebury College in 1981 with a B.A. in American Studies. Formerly a lawyer in private practice, Betsy graduated from Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1985, and is an accredited life coach through the International Coach Federation, and is an accredited Kripalu yoga teacher. She lives in Concord, New Hampshire.
