DISABILITIES 101
The DOF introduces the world of community development to the disabilities market at this year’s OFN conference (Fall 2009)
Each year more than 700 CDFI and opportunity finance practitioners, CDFI Board Members, bankers, regulators, foundation staff, religious investors, and investment managers attend the conference.
This year, The DOF was given a pre-conference session in which they discussed disability rights, policies and benefits. The connection was made between the needs of the disabilities market and how they fall well within community development boundaries. The session was attended by cdfi’s, organizations and the Federal Reserve Bank representatives.

The DOF is thrilled with the success and outcome of the Roundtable Discussions: Housing Solutions for People with Disabilities.
Located in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, the roundtable discussions were held to determine the specific market needs, policy changes and funding opportunities for affordable accessible housing for people with disabilities.
Representatives from banks, investment firms, foundations, Federal, State and local government agencies, service organizations, developers and the Federal Reserve Bank came together, in many cases, for the first time, to understand the potential for CRA eligiblity, new financial product development, the need for an increased supply in housing and how to better direct existing government funding for this housing.
