DOF Closes Its First Loan in Virginia

In March 2013, DOF closed a $450,000 loan with Scioto Properties LLC (its fourth loan with Scioto) to purchase a property that will be leased Good Neighbor Community Services, a for-profit company delivering Intellectual Disability and Behavioral Health services in Virginia. Good Neighbor Community Services has a strong reputation within the disability and mental health advocacy communities in Virginia. The organization was awarded “Best of the Best” distinction for its work in 2012 by Follow Media Consulting.

The State of Virginia, like other states, has been moving toward a model of closing state run facilities and shifting to privately run residential and day centers. This has created added demand for Good Neighbor’s work, but also has led to a cottage industry of sorts as new organizations are quickly started to meet demand. Good Neighbor will use the 7,300 square foot site to provide socializing, health & wellness, community integration and personal growth day services for adults living with intellectual & developmental disabilities.

This transaction marks the ninth state in which DOF has provided financing!
